Checking In

1/22/2022

How is it 2022? First, I hope you're well. The past couple of years haven't been kind to many people - especially those in the arts community. If you're reading this, I am glad you're here, and wish you well in 2022.

Theatrically, I've been pretty quiet since the pandemic began, but I have some exciting news bottled up that I hope to share soon! My last production was in early 2020, just weeks before everything shut down, and I've spent this time working on my own writing, and shepherding some new plays through the development process with the Curtain Players New Works Initiative and Mad Lab's Young Writers project. I love working on new plays and watching playwrights manifest their visions.

As theaters have begun to turn their lights back on, it looks like I may see some of my own plays tread the boards once more. While I cannot divulge the details, I will tease that I received a request to stage my play The Last Queen of Wonderland later this year. Coincidentally, it was the last of my plays to see the stage before the pandemic, so it's kind of fitting that it could be the first one back. Where will it land? That, I cannot yet reveal; but I will as soon as it's announced.

If you're not familiar with my reimagination of Lewis Carroll's classic, I will let this awesome recommendation by playwright Claudia Haas describe it. Seriously, I should just make this the description when promoting the play:
This is not Alice in Wonderland. It is a wild ride of an adventure story that borrows liberally from the book but takes it in new directions. The play takes place before, during and after Alice's infamous trip to Wonderland. New plot points, twists, travel through time, travel via looking glass and the nonsense that is Wonderland are smartly rearranged to bring us a new story with a lot more intrigue than the original. Packed with action, this play is ideal for young audiences and families of all ages.
